Superman Out Of The Closet?

Just when everybody's getting excited about the big-screen return of Superman from wherever it is he had gone off to, discussions about this particular Superman's sexual orientation have practically exploded all over the Internet.

Yes folks. People are now debating whether Brandon Routh's Superman is gay.

And all that apparently started out with the poster to the left.

It's funny how people manage to see so many things in something as inane as a movie poster. The comments on this blog are quite entertaining. Take special note of the ones referring to the State of Florida, that appendage-shaped thingie just a few inches to the right of Superman's boots.

Superman Returns director Bryan Singer is openly gay, but I don't think he'll turn the Man of Steel into the X-Man of Steel (pardon the pun).

But curiously enough, there really is something about the poster that's a bit, uh, gay. I'm not a homophobe, and in fact count two flaming homosexuals among my closest friends, but the pose, the fingers, the now-female boxer shorts-like external underwear....oh well.

And this classic Superman comic book cover doesn't help one bit.
